Greenwalls – more than just a pretty face

    By 360 PR | News | 0 comment | 23 September, 2019 | 0

With the growing trend in green living, greenwalls and greenroofs have become more and more popular over the past couple of years.

Over the last 25 years, founder of The Greenwall Company and leader in the greenwall and greenroof industry, Mark Paul, has tested, designed, re-designed and mastered his greenwalls to ensure they will last the lifetime of the building on which they are installed. Mark designs and builds greenwalls that are beautiful, unique and ones which will ultimately help the built environment.

Greenwalls are soil-less vertical gardens grown on the surface of built structures. Greenwalls, also known as ‘living walls’ or ‘green facases’ are an innovative way to green a vertical built surface.

    The benefits of greenwalls

Greenwalls and greenroofs offer a number of incredible benefits, whether they are installed inside or out. These range from practical advantages such as energy cost reduction to health and wellbeing benefits. Greenwalls are definitely more than just a pretty face.

    1. Aesthetic appeal

Greenwalls are undoubtedly strikingly beautiful, truly unique and can be viewed as a living art piece. It has the ability to transform any plain wall surface into an amazing display, which adds instant character to any room or building.

     2. Improved air quality

There are a number of harmful fumes and contaminants in the air that we breathe in, especially indoors such as dust particles, formaldehyde, VOCs, carbon monoxide and many others. Greenwalls are a natural air-filter. The plants in the greenwall help metabolise toxins in the air, while at the same time releasing oxygen into the air but at a much larger scale than the usual potted plants.

    3. Noise level reduction

When placed inside, greenwalls can help reduce noise levels. The plants in the greenwall block high-frequency sounds and the structure it is built on can help reduce low-frequency noise. Outdoor greenwalls also help reduce noise pollution especially in cities that are densely populated. They help to minimise noise, vibrations and reduce sound penetration by absorbing the acoustic energy that bounces off buildings.

    4. Energy cost reduction

Greenwalls can help reduce both cooling and heating requirements, which further decrease our carbon emissions. In the warmer months, the plants in greenwall help cool the air through the process of transpiration. While during winter the living wall acts as extra insulation, which helps reduce heat escaping and blocking the cool air from coming in.

    5. Low maintenance

Living walls require very little attention to upkeep. The wall can be left to grow out and can be maintained a couple times a year, depending on the look you are after. Each greenwall built by The Greenwall Company has its own unique automated irrigation system, so they don’t need to be manually watered! Over a 12-month period, a standard panel will only require the equivalent of 4.5 showers worth of water to maintain the wall, with future plans to use black water.

    6. Health and wellbeing benefits

A number of studies have found that green space and plants have a soothing and relaxing psychological effect. A Texan study of post-surgery patients recovering in hospitals also showed further health benefits, recording quicker recovery and less chance of relapse if patients could look out onto green space. It also revealed that greenery is great for stress relief.

So what are you waiting for?! Head to The Greenwall Company for a quote and reep the benefits.
